Did you know that are 3 primary reasons people go on a fast?
- For Weight Loss. You may have heard of intermittent fasting which is a way of eating and scheduling of food in order to lose weight. Even people who go on extended fasts do it to lose weight.
- For Health Reasons. Many times we can become chronically ill with things like diabetes or heart disease, to name a few when we have excess weight on our bodies. The doctor will then advise that losing some weight is necessary to improving our health. While you will lose weight the motivation is for your health.
- For Spiritual Reasons. When we go on a spiritual fasts the goal or end result is different from the other two. We go on a spiritual fast to break free from bad habits and oppressive spirit, to draw closer to God, to get direction from God and to get our prayers answered
While all three of these have a different motivation, they all result in weight loss. Why is it important to know this? You never want to mislabel your spiritual fast by saying “Well, at least I’ll lose a few pounds at the end of it”. If this thought crosses your mind you could be in danger of not really getting out of it what God wants to give to you. If you want to lose a few pounds, go on a weight loss fast. When you enter a spiritual fast your mindset has to be one thing and one thing only…God. Only then will the true breakthrough you are looking for be delivered to you.
